This is a good short video from Great Big Story about a man, who found that he has a natural talent as a sumo wrestler. The part that he says “sumo is a game of seconds” is so full of impact. The amount of training and dedication you put into it, yet a match is decided within seconds, is full of meaning and hard work.
This sport of respect and dedication can be said to be dying in Japan, with dwindling number of sumo wrestlers in general, and more than half are from foreign countries now. It’s funny how when a thing passes away in Japan, it gets passed onto other countries. Take the Silent Library game and Ninja Warrior for example.
One day, I want to see a sumo match live. Doesn’t matter if it’s American sumo or Japanese sumo.
